RARE JASPE ~ LG MORTAR & PESTLE ~ FRENCH ANTIQUE RED WARE ~ VINTAGE PHARMACY POT
Here is a
very unusual piece of French pottery
— a
large, heavy, redware mortar
with
beautiful jaspe patterns
and a wooden pesten.  Photos were not enhanced.  The brighter ones were taken in my kitchen and show all sides.   I find five spots where there are glaze flakes, the largest a thumb print size but that one is in a light spot and hard to detect (fourth photo, right in the middle
—
look carefully.)  Bought in Paris and  in my own collection for decades.   Was this made for a pharmacy or a French kitchen?
