in blue glaze on the base plate inside of the circular, raised cleat on the bottom of the form. It still has its woven cotton cord used as a hanging device, threaded into the intentional perforations in the raised, cleated base, in order to display and hang the plate as decoration in a home.

wheel thrown, hand decorated, figurative ceramic plate, featuring a young female French maiden in provincial, period French peasant attire, with her arms outstretched, wearing a bodiced, long yellow-gold dress, white apron and blue sleeved blouse. This particular period antique French

ceramic plate was one of four antique
Quimper
plates found in a greater Boston, Massachusetts estate, where the female owner was of Belgian descent who spoke Flemish and only relocated to the United States after marrying an American citizen at the end of the Second World War, with her American husband serving in the US Armed Forces in the epic international struggle against German Nazism, Italian fascism and Japanese imperialism. This antique plate hung in their Arlington, Massachusetts' home for over 50 years and was never removed from the nail upon which it hung on the wall of the kitchen of their well-appointed Arts & Crafts period home. The front and back ceramic surfaces are understandably crazed, with the ceramic glaze being crackled due to the normal fluctuations in heat and cold over time. The plate is most likely at least tw0-hundred years old and possibly even older. It doesn't suffer from any fractures, significant material loss or other demonstrable damage to its structure or decorated surfaces. It does suffer from some very minor episodes of loss of glaze along the extreme margins of the plate's edge, which could be characterized and described as 'glaze flakes.' decorated ceramic figurative plate is from the collection of a Belgian woman who lived with the plates in her family's home in Antwerp, Belgian, only to take them and all of her Flemish European furniture with her when she relocated and moved to the United States of America. It is unusual to find not only one but four of these over two-hundred year old, late 18th century plates here in a single estate in the United States.
