1920s Victorian Revival Gold-Filled Enamel Swallow Pin, Crescent Pearl Requerdo
1920s Victorian Revival Gold-Filled Enamel Swallow Pin, Crescent Pearl Requerdo
    Description
This tiny brooch features several love and remembrance motifs of the Victorian era. Swallows mate for life and a crescent moon is a precursor of a full moon (growing relationships). Links form a strong bond, and calla lilies symbolize beauty. "R" for "requerdo" (remembrance in Spanish), and seed pearls can represent tears, hence, this pin may have been worn in mourning. The yellow gold-filled pin is over 5/8" across. It has an earlier example of the rotating clasp, developed in the 1920s, that opens on the top, rather than side. There is some loss to the enamel, but the muted gold-filled finish is intact.
